THE SOURCE OF KNOWLEDGE, WISDOM, AND UNDERSTANDING

PROVERBS 2:6-12 (NASB)

For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice, and He preserves the way of His Godly ones. Then you will discern righteousness and justice and equity and every good course. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will guard you, understanding will watch over you, to deliver you from the way of evil."

KNOWLEDGE, WISDOM, AND UNDERSTANDING

In my initial entry, I said that my intention for this blog is to share the wisdom of God's Word. I don't want this to become a place to pontificate. However, I felt that I would share why I feel compelled to write this blog.
I have taught in Christian schools for over twenty-five years. During this time, I have seen many young people grow into adulthood willing, eager, and well-equipped to live for the Lord. Unfortunately, I have also seen many Christian young people, who, although they have received a working knowledge of spiritual truth, don't use that truth to live committed, victorious lives. I find myself asking, "Why?"
The book of Proverbs uses three related terms when discussing spiritual truth. The first word is knowledge. This is the basis of spiritual truth. Knowledge is doctrine, the teachings of the Bible. Knowledge provides the tools one needs to conduct spiritual activity.
The next word is wisdom. This Hebrew word signifies skillfulness. Wisdom could be understood to be the ability to correctly use the tools of knowledge. I know what a hammer and a chisel are; however, I would not be able to create a masterpiece of marble with them because I am not skillful with the tools(knowledge) that I possess.
The third term, understanding, is one's capability to evaluate a situation correctly in order to skillfully use knowledge. In other words, understanding enables a person to diagnose a problem, choose the right tools, and then use those tools in such a way that the right outcome is achieved.
It it my heart's desire that this blog might reach some believer who for whatever reason is not skillfully using the knowledge he has received. I am praying that the Holy Spirit will find willing hearts where He can minister.

A VOICE FOR WISDOM

Here in Seoul, our ears are barraged daily by the voices of vendors selling their goods. Men in small trucks with roof-mounted speakers drive through the neighborhoods blaring their message to come buy. Little old ladies call out from the street corners to entice passersby to take a look at their merchandise. Even in grocery stores, salesmen call out from their various departments telling shoppers of the good deals waiting for them. The calls are loud and insistent. The book of Proverbs tells us that the same situation occurs in the marketplace of life. Wisdom is calling out to any who will listen. She tells of the excellence of her merchandise. Foolishness also is hawking her wares. She cries boisterously and attracts many customers. As I have ventured around the "marketplace" of the internet, I have heard many voices supporting foolishness and what she has to offer. I fear the voice of wisdom is nearly drowned out. I want to be a voice that lends itself to the cause of wisdom. That is the intent of this blog. I want to share God's wisdom(His Word) through this site. Scripture will be posted with little or no comment from me. The Holy Spirit is a far better teacher than I. However, if you as a reader desire to comment or discuss(not argue) a passage, I would be happy to hear from you
